What is Ho'oponopono
Ho’oponopono is a traditional practice from the Hawaii islands, that focuses on healing, reconciliation, and forgiveness. It is a method of cleansing and purifying the mind, body, and spirit. The term “Ho’oponopono” literally translates to “make right” or “correct an error,” reflecting the essence of this practice: to restore balance and harmony within ourselves.
The traditional Ho’oponopono underwent significant transformation in the 20th century, particularly through the work of Morrnah Nalamaku Simeona. A revered kahuna, She adapted Ho’oponopono for contemporary use, making it accessible to individuals outside of the Hawaiian community and applicable to personal healing.
Dr Hew Len
One student of Simeona was Dr Ihaleakala Hew Len who co-authored a book with Joe Vitale called Zero Limits and Hoóponopono was introduced to the West. Dr Hew Len, was the doctor at Hawaii State Hospital, where using Ho’oponopono, he cured every patient in the criminally insane ward. And that too within a period of four years, without seeing any patient in person but only through their files!
Steps To Healing Through Ho'oponopono
Healing Through Ho’oponopono Involves Four Essential Steps: Repentance, Forgiveness, Gratitude, And Love. The Order Isn’t Crucial; What’s Important Is The Sincere Intention Behind Each Step. You Can Say These Statements Aloud Or Silently In Your Mind.
Step 1: Repentance –
“I’m Sorry”
The first step is to express repentance by saying, “I’m sorry.”
This means acknowledging to the Divine that you’ve forgotten your connection and tried to handle everything on your own. You’re apologizing for the part of you that has contributed to the issue.
Direct these words to the Divine within or wherever you feel the Divine’s presence. Speak sincerely from your heart without overthinking.
Step 2: Forgiveness –
“Please Forgive Me”
Next, ask the Divine for forgiveness by saying, “Please forgive me.”
Seek forgiveness for forgetting the Divine’s healing power and for allowing the problem to arise. By asking for forgiveness, you are also letting go of your ego’s need to control or deny the issue.
This request for forgiveness extends to yourself, your ancestors, and anyone else involved.
Step 3: Show Gratitude –

Then, express gratitude by saying, “Thank you.”
Thank the Divine, the Universe, or God for resolving the issue and for the grace and presence that make healing possible.
Acknowledge that the problem is resolved and feel grateful for the Divine intervention.
Step 4: Express Love –
“I Love You”
Finally, express love by saying, “I love you.”
By expressing love, you accept that you are Love and connected to the Divine.
